About the location
This is a Site of Special Scientific Interest as it represents a remnant of a formerly more extensive wetland area of a type which is threatened by drainage and agricultural improvement.
The site has a complex hydrology with calcareous springs amongst more acidic communities creating a rich diversity of habitats, in particular fen habitats with a range of interesting species such as Marsh Helleborine, Dyer’s Greenweed, Dioecious Sedge, Marsh Lousewort, Black Bog Rush, Parsley-leaved Water dropwort. There are also fragments of wet woodland dominated by Bay Willow.
Curlew and snipe have bred on the Ings.
