Good for: Wildflowers
Very interesting valley fen over limestone surrounded by woodland and acid grassland.
Parking
Park in the layby on the B6165 (Ripley) opposite Ripley Park.
Access
Access on foot via the Lane to Rigg Farm and footpaths to Cayton Gill. There is no access to the fen but the edges can be viewed from the footpath that runs alongside the valley.
Terrain
Very boggy and uneven.
About the location
This is a Site of Interest for Nature Conservation. Cayton Beck runs through a narrow valley underlain by magnesian limestone. Numerous flushes and inundated areas create a diverse mix of wet woodland and fen vegetation including some enormous Tussock Sedges.
