Good for: Birds, Butterflies, Wildflowers
Mixed woodland, mostly deciduous. The rocky Oak Beck runs the full length of the site. There are two grassy meadows and some outcrops of Millstone Grit.
Parking
Car park at Oak Beck Road.
Access
Access path alongside the bridge over Oak Beck, at the entrance to Oak Beck Road; or from the A61 Ripon Road, Harrogate.
Terrain
A network of paths, which are sometimes steep, although steps have been constructed in places. Partly accessible to those of limited mobility.
Habitat:
About the location
Various warblers and tits in the woodland, with Grey Wagtail, Dipper, Heron and Kingfisher around the beck. Interesting plants include Coralroot Bittercress, Purple Toothwort, Skunk Cabbage, Common Spotted Orchid and Northern Marsh Orchid. Butterflies such as Speckled Wood, Holly Blue, Orange Tip and Green-veined White are possible in season.
